Elijah said nothing for he knew what was behind those doors. He always knew.
It was so dark I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face to ensure that I didn’t fall into anything.
A voice called out of the darkness, “You are strong and powerful just like your family, but it means nothing here.”
I looked around, but it was still so dark. “Show yourself.” I commanded.
All at once bright lights seemed to come out of every orifice. I was blinding. I took me some time for my eyes to adjust to this.
“You fool! You think you can defeat me. I am the master of all the creatures here.” He growled.
I could see him as my eyes adjusted. “You’re larger than I imagined.” He was huge. I couldn’t imagine how he could fit into this room. “I will still kill you, not matter how big you are.”
The Minotaur laughed, “Let’s make a deal, shall we. Since you are no David and I am not Goliath, you will need this deal.”
“A deal? What kind of deal?” This made little sense. Was he afraid of me? Did I scare him?
“Yes, a deal. Where is your friend the centaur?” He asked.
I hadn’t noticed that he was not there “Elijah!” I called to him and looked around but he was gone. I knew The Minotaur had him. “What did you do with him? Where is he?” I hated this thing and couldn’t wait to crush it.
“All part of the deal. You could fight him and try to gain his freedom of you could sacrifice him. Give me his life for us and I will let you pass.”
“What! No! I would never do that. There has to be another way.” I was pacing as he was agitating me. There had to be another way. I needed time to think.
“You will be stronger.” He said as he tried to convince me to leave my friend. “You will have my power and the power to control all the creatures here. You will be just as powerful as the others in your family. Your father, grandmother, all so powerful. Don’t you want to be like them?”
“Maeve lost everything that night she was attacked. My father grew up without his mother! Why would I want that?” I was determined to do what was right. To be true to my friend.
“You have already lost everything and now I am giving you the power to get them back. If you don’t take this power, you will never get back to your loved ones.”
I was still pacing, but I knew he was right but I didn’t want to admit it. I sighed, “Fine what do I have to do.”
He smiled and moved his hands to reveal Elijah. He was being held down by chains. I watched him struggling to break free. His arms were spread out by the chains as his feet were being tied down. It was as if he was being pulled apart.
The Minotaur gave me a dagger. He was my confusion and smiled. “Oh did you think this was the easy way out? You fool! We made a deal and now you don’t have a choice. Take the dagger and stab him in the heart. Then cut his heart out and give it to me so I may feed.”
