I knew things would be difficult, but I needed to get back to my family. Maurelle had to be worried. I can’t imagine what she must be going through.
The man I saw earlier came back. “Are you ready slave?”
I looked up as I waited for my instructions.
“Are you ready slave?” He said and kicked me as I sat on the floor.
“I will do whatever it takes to get back to them.”
He laughed as I spoke. “Do you think any of them will even remember you? So you know how long you’ve been down here?”
I looked at him in fear. “What do you mean? How long have I been here?” My voice grew louder as I questioned him. “What did you do to Maurelle?” I stood up as if I would attack him. I must have looked ridiculous. I don’t know what I was thinking. There was no way I could have done anything to him. He was a god and I, I could barely walk.
“Oh, my little slave! What do you think you will gain from this? I did nothing to your little fairy.” He laughed. “I don’t think your fairy will even remember you. I have it on good authority that all her loving memories of you were taken. Poor little fairy with nobody to love her.”
I grew angry. Where was Shawn, Gwen and Tommy? Where were my children? My thoughts raced to them.
“Oh the children. So sad to grow up without a family.” He looked around to ensure that Maeve wasn’t anywhere to hear what he was saying. She would hate to hear him talking to her grandson like this. “Listen I am giving you a chance. I was not the one who killed you. I was not the one who separated your family. I will tell you a secret. One you will forget as soon as you leave my realm.”
I tried to calm myself down as I listened to him. What happened to Maurelle? Where were my children? These are the thoughts keep returning. “What is this secret?” I asked.
“You will have help on these tasks. Well for some of them, anyway. Your grandmother will help you.”
“My grandmother?” I was curious as I had never met her before. She died when my father was just a baby.
“Yes, her name is Maeve. I promised her she could help you. She’s not too happy about what I’m doing with you.” He smiled “But she knows I am in control here.”
Matthew was confused, “Why would you let her help me? Why do you care how she feels?”
Jonathan smiles, “Your grandmother is an amazing woman. You will forget this when you leave my realm. Maeve is my wife. She is also a vampire. Did you ever wonder what happened to her?”
“They said she was sick. That she passed away when my father was a baby.”
“When your father was a baby, a vampire names Marius attacked her and turned her. She had a difficult time caring for your father. The entire town including Hunter turned on her. They ran her out of town.”
“So she wants to help me?”
“You are her family and she will do anything for her family.” The Shadow King smiles, “Your first task is the Labyrinth. In this task you will be inside an amazing labyrinth of my creation. Be careful slave. The wall will fall and rise in random order. There are ancient monsters all over the labyrinth. One of them is the master of all of them. Defeat him and you will defeat all the monsters. Find your way out and defeat all the monsters.
He laughed as he knew I would fail. “You will bring me the head of one such a monster.” He smiles, “You will learn who soon enough Slave.”
Jonathan waved his hand and transported Matthew to the Labyrinth. “Good luck slave.” And then he disappeared.
